Editing
The task editor
Open a task — click its bar or row, or arrive via a ?task= link — and its editor slides in on the right. It stays alongside the chart (not a blocking modal), so you can keep clicking around. Most fields save the moment you change them; the description is the one deliberate exception.
The fields
Across the top: the name, and a strip of pills — Type (phase / task / subtask / milestone), Parent, Priority, Team, and a phase color. Below that: a Progress slider, a Schedule section (start / end dates and an optional constraint like “start no earlier than”), and a People section. Comments, progress notes, and attachments have their own guide; dependencies show here too as incoming / outgoing links you can add or remove.
A couple of fields are read-only by design: a phase's dates and a parent's progress are rolled up from its children, so you edit the children, not the summary.
Assignee vs stakeholders
The Assignee is the one person who owns the task — pick them and, if they're on vacation or a trip during the task's dates, the editor warns you right there. Stakeholders are anyone else who should follow along: they're notified on comments and see everything, but don't own the work. Someone can't be both on the same task.
How saving works
Name, dates, progress, assignee, status and the rest auto-save as you go — the footer reads “Editing…”, then “Saved …”. Esc closes the editor (flushing anything pending) and ⌘↵ saves and closes. The description is different: it opens read-only, you click Edit to change it, and Save / Cancel commit or discard that draft. Closing with an unsaved description asks before dropping it — so a long write-up is never lost to a stray click.

Descriptions aren't shipped with the chart's bulk data (that keeps big projects fast), so the editor fetches the full text when you open a task. Edit unlocks the instant it arrives — the brief lock stops a save from overwriting text that hadn't loaded yet. Read-only viewers see the description but no Edit button at all.
